Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie

When I first created this recipe, Fall was officially in full-swing, which means bright-colored trees, crunchy leaves, football (go Green Bay Packers & Wisconsin Badgers!! 😉), and of course, pumpkin everything!!

I decided to put a spin on the classic Fall-favorite — pumpkin pie — and make it into a delish, healthy, quick, & easy smoothie recipe!  This smoothie is super thick, creamy, & dreamy (YUM!), and has lots of healthy fats & protein.  It makes a perfect breakfast, dessert, or something to wow your friends & family with at a Fall-themed party!

Of course, a pumpkin pie protein smoothie is delicious enough to be enjoyed any time of the year — so don’t shy away from it even when it’s not currently “pumpkin season”.  This smoothie is way too tasty to only reserve for Fall.  😉  Cheers!

Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie


(makes 2 big pumpkin pie protein smoothies, or several smaller smoothies)

–20 oz. unsweetened almond milk**

–1/2 can organic pumpkin

–1/4 cup raw pecans

–1/2 avocado

–1 scoop vanilla grass-fed whey protein (MaxLiving’s Grass-Fed Whey Protein is what I use & recommend to everyone)

–1/2 tbsp. vanilla extract

–Cinnamon (to taste)

–Nutmeg (to taste)

–Pumpkin Pie Spice (to taste)

–liquid vanilla stevia (to taste)…or you could use a little raw honey or your sweetener of choice

**Instead of using almond milk for the base, you could also use organic full-fat coconut milk (or a mixture of almond milk & coconut milk), which would make the smoothie even more creamy, smooth, & full of healthy fats.  I’ve also tried making it with Suero Gold (a cultured whey beverage from Beyond Organic), which adds a TON of probiotics, along with its naturally cleansing, detoxifying, & digestive-health benefits!  Another base I haven’t tried with this specific recipe (but would definitely be delicious, & also loaded with probiotics), is using plain Amasai from Beyond Organic.  Experiment and find your favorite version!  That’s the cool thing about smoothies — they’re so versatile & the options are endless!**


1. Put the almond milk (or whatever base you choose), pumpkin, pecans, and 1/2 avocado into a blender (I use a Vitamix, which will give you the smoothest/best results!).  Blend on high until completely smooth.

2.  Add all the rest of the ingredients to the blender.  Blend at a slower speed or pulse until everything is completely mixed in.  (You want to make sure you don’t put the protein powder in until you’re ready to blend it for the last time; try to blend slower and for less time once the protein is in the blender, because you want to preserve the nutrients/protein in it as much as possible!)

3. Pour into glasses, sprinkle with some extra cinnamon (optional), and ENJOY! 😊
